Fabric, Fabric, Fabric!

I love fabric!  I love all the colors, the designs, the beautiful palates -- all of it.  In my spare time I am a hand quilter (I've never used a machine), hand-stitching blankets of love, decorative pillows, and elephants for friends and loved ones.  Fabric can be quite expensive and hard to find sometimes, but Hawthorne Threads takes care of all that.  Their collections are fabulous, with prices that are well below the competition's price.  Lindsay and Charlie have a wonderful site for you to visit!

Sip of the Grape

I am a true believer that wine is simply art in a bottle.  I also believe you shouldn't have to travel far distances or pay an outrageous amount for a delicious Zinfandel or Port.

While most people might think of California, France, Italy, or Australia when they think of quality wines, I tend to focus a little closer to home.  On the Eastern side of Washington State, along Interstate 90, a fabulous little wine town awaits -- Zillah.

I have been visiting Zillah for several years now, often times in the Spring when the weather is beginning to warm, and again in the Fall, when the crisp leaves paint themselves into a palate of colors among the trees.  This little town is packed with wonderful small wineries, affordable wines, and an array of colorful characters just waiting to pour you a glass.

Though I tend to make the rounds through the valley each trip, and end up coming home with several mixed cases, the one winery that has won my heart over is Portteus Winery.

For as long as I can remember, my family has enjoyed the fruits of Paul Portteus' labors every holiday season -- Cabernet for Thanksgiving; Zinfandel for Christmas.

Whether you stop by the tasting room in Zillah, or order a mixed case on-line, your tasting palate will never be the same.  Portteus Wines truly are magical!
